it's too hard to choose just one

Day 17 » Your favorite movie.

I don't know what's my favorite movie anymore. There's a lot that i like and can watch over and over again but nothing really sticks out as my favorite movie of all time.

Well, i think i can say that my favorite movie is probably here somewhere.

Hmm.. okay. Maybe that's quite a big selection. So maybe my favorite movie is here somewhere.

Throughout college and early 2000s though, i thought My Bestfriend's Wedding is my fave. It was one of the first DVDs that i bought. I've seen this movie countless times, and i've almost memorized the dialogue. But it's my favorite because no matter how many times i've seen it, that boat cruise scene still makes me cry.

So far, 500 Days of Summer is becoming something like that. I've seen it 6 times already, 3 of which was from the movie theater. The scene by the bench still makes my heart ache. Same thing with the Korean movie My Sassy Girl and the "I'm sorry" scene. And Bridget Jones's Diary. And Moulin Rouge. And Lost in Translation.

Ah, this is so hard. I love movies so much i don't think i can choose just one.

yada yada yada yada

yay!!! i finally have internet at home again. i've been internet-deprived since Sunday, and i just got it back yesterday. i was getting so pissed at Globe already when it still was not available by Monday night. they came by on Wednesday morning and discovered that at fault all that time was the electrical wiring in my condo! some wire short-circuited on the 15th floor. and they had the gall to ask me to pay for the wire they used to replace the one that short-circuited. now i love Globe again, and i hate my condo again. and since it's nearly April, i think i will be entertaining the thought of moving out again... let's see. ------------------------------------------------------------ since a lot of people are still asking, yes i am still very busy. but i really really hope it will be over soon. when i say that, people try to console me by saying something like "well, that's ok. you're getting rich anyway". now just to put an end to all that nonsense, believe me that that is not the case. if you know me, then you know that i prefer to work, and work better during the night. it's easier for me to work until sunrise, than to come in the office before 10am. so when things matter, i give it my best. and what's best is for me to take advantage of my strengths, which translates to working at night. and unfortunately translates also to being late for work (i can't help it, i still love to sleep). and even if i get a lot of scolding for this behavior (though it's less now than before), i still believe that after all things considered, it's more beneficial than detrimental for my work. and of course, i pay for being late, literally. but i need money especially to pay for my outrageous rent. so i offset some of the salary deductions by getting paid for the extra hours i put in (at night, of course). and that's my financial story. so now, on the very rare times that i get to meet you, my other non-office friends, stop bugging me to treat you! ------------------------------------------------------------ i don't want to say that i'm workaholic. i'd rather say that i'm dedicated. ok, stop laughing. to prove that i am still not workaholic, i went out tonight (yes, friday night. social life. yay!). and that's considering i have to make a build tomorrow and i still have some code to put in. so clap clap for my efforts (please?). i finally got to watch twilight. i read the books (thanks Mapet!) so i expected to be disappointed even with my very low expectations. and guess what, i was right. what i hated:
  • Rosalie, Esme and Jacob are ugly
  • isn't Eric supposed to be nerdy and pimply, and not gay?
  • the makeup. is it too much to ask to at least even out the pale white foundation/powder, and put some on the necks of those actors??? (and i usually don't care about this but it really bothered me)
  • Jasper looks constipated
  • Edward looks like he's smelling something really bad when he's supposed to be in pain, and he looks constipated also
  • it could be the screenplay, or the directing, or the acting. but at least one of those is to blame for the bad story telling
what could be better:
  • i wish Edward smiled more, he's supposed to have this really nice smile
  • i wish Alice was more bubbly, and had more screen time
  • i wish all of them Cullens would be more regal, and graceful. Edward was a slouch.
what i liked:
  • the baseball scene
  • Alice's pitch. did you see that right leg?!?!? she kicked so high, and her foot was pointed and all... it was so pretty.
  • the dad. i think he's the only one who more or less satisfied the idea of what i had in mind when i was reading the book
the verdict: i don't regret watching it, but i won't buy the DVD (and that's a harsh punishment). however, i'll probably still watch the sequel/s if they come out. ------------------------------------------------------------ speaking of DVDs, i finally had the time to clean and reorganize my collection last Sunday (all 160 of them. no internet, what do you do? me, i cleaned my room). so now they are all so prettily arranged, and i have space again for more! yay! I HAVE SPACE FOR MORE! so now you have an idea of what you can get me for Christmas. hihihi! :D but ok, if you want specifics:
  • Friends Season 8, 9 or 10
  • Iron Man (i love the steel case version, so freakin' expensive though so i'm still undecided if i should it get it or not)
  • Bourne Ultimatum (2-Disc), Hulk (the one with Edward Norton), Wanted (James McAvoy ftw!)
  • i haven't updated it in a while but i still want these
  • a revolving/rotating (?) DVD-rack
  • Absolute Sandman Volume 4 (i'm waiting for Fully Booked to go on 20% off sale before i buy it)
  • Fables Volume 11
  • if you're rich and/or you love me, you can buy this for 11k at Fully Booked
  • breakfast! (yes, i love breakfast food but not in the morning)
  • and as always, i like things that are personal (handmade, personalized, one of a kind). but no paintings from J please, don't get any ideas. :P
(ok, back to work. advance merry christmas everyone!)

i am back

... from Hong Kong and Macau. And i'm dreading the week-long meetings, trainings and discussions that is coming my way. I think i would need another vacation after that. I'll be doing a more detailed post about my trip later. For now, here are just some things i would like to get out of my system already!
  • most of the people there keep talking to me in chinese. i cannot believe i look chinese.
  • 4 days and 3 nights out of the country, 3 different hotels -- i am not doing that again!
  • i am not drinking again for a month! i woke up this morning and i was still drunk. good thing i didn't have my laptop with me and i was on roaming, so drunk blogging and drunk dialing were not options.
  • for someone who didn't pay for any of the hotels and rarely paid for the food and drinks, i spent waaaaay too much. i won't be eating for the rest of the year. thanks to my friend Richie for all the treats!
  • but on spending again, i just want to say i love all the things that i bought. and of course, my "prized finds" were DVDs! wahahah! i bought When a Man Loves a Woman, When Harry Met Sally, Lost in Translation, and Il Mare. :D
  • i gambled for the first time in Macau, and i actually won a bit. but again, i already spent all my winnings.
  • while in Macau, i received a text from Bibliarch that Fables 10 and Absolute Sandman Vol. 3 which i reserved last week were already available. and they were on sale until Sunday (20% off!). so i asked my sister to claim them for me, and now they are here. triple yay! new babies. ;)
It was tiring but it was also a fun vacation. Now, if only i can find my brain again and get my head out of the vacation cloud...

movies movies movies

i'm sorry... i love my country and all, and i have filipino pride and stuff like that. but for some reason, i really hate the metro manila film festival. ok, very rarely, there are good movies that come out during the film fest. but that season is also the time that a lot of good international movies come out. and these movies have to be delayed due to the film fest who just need to hog out all the cinemas in city. anyway, i especially hate last year's film fest because i missed the showing of Martian Child. i've been waiting for the movie since i saw its trailer and i missed it. i think it was only shown here for less than a week! oh well, this is the movie buff in me ranting. but anyway again, at least i found the time to watch a lot of movies this month already. i've seen I Am Legend and National Treasure 2 which were both okay. i find I Am Legend scary and creepy. while i think the first National Treasure is better than the second one. i watched 27 Dresses yesterday which is generally not a very good movie for me. i think it was good and funny in the beginning. but towards the end, it seems as if the writer just got lazy and sloppy. but at least James Marsden was there, who i'm beginning to love especially when he starts singing. the best movie i've seen so far, which i've seen twice already, is Sweeney Todd. yes! Johnny Depp singing despite looking terrible was still "swoon-worthy". the movie was dark, gory and funny, and everyone was singing which was perfect! my favorite was Johnny Depp's and Alan Rickman's duet of "Pretty Women". it's as if they really appreciate women! *swoon* i still haven't seen American Gangster which i heard is a good movie. and i'm actually interested in it because this time, Denzel Washington is the "bad guy" while Russell Crowe is the "good guy". when i first saw the trailer for the movie, i remembered their other movie together, Virtuosity. and in that movie, their roles were switched. i always like to see how well an actor can play both the "good" and "bad" sides. that is why i very much like "Face/Off". John Travolta and Nicholas Cage were both convincing as protagonists and antagonists. anyway, anybody want to see American Gangster with me?

dibidees!

i am now the owner of 83 movie DVDs and 7 seasons of Friends (DVD box-set). for those who don't know yet, yes this is my main vice. i figured since i really like movies, i should support them by not just collecting them, but by buying the original ones also. i even bought some "unknown" DVDs just to check them out. some turned out well, but of course there's also a few that are mediocre and/or not worth it. anyway, i am still looking for several DVDs. i cannot find them in any of the stores here and i am now seriously considering of ordering them from Amazon, but the shipping price kinda scares me. and besides plane tickets, i have never bought anything else online. has anyone tried ordering from the Philippines? any tips? well, if any of you guys know where i can find these DVDs, please let me know. i really want to get my hands on them soon. you may also give them to me as an early christmas gift. :p
  1. The Shawshank Redemption
  2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
  3. Gangs of New York
  4. Count of Monte Cristo
  5. Sleepers
  6. Meet Joe Black
  7. Lost in Translation
  8. Lord of the Rings 1-3, Extended Edition
  9. Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2
  10. With Honors
  11. Fight Club
  12. The Wedding Singer
  13. The Matrix
  14. A Lot Like Love (only because of the song)
i am also looking for the DVD of the local film "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros" and of course, "Pisay" once it gets out. btw, if you guys have any suggestions also of what i should get/watch, please tell me. i am sure there are still a lot of movies out there that i don't know of. :) edit: while playing the Never-Ending Movie Quiz on Facebook, i realize i haven't seen and/or i want the following movies too.
  1. Dead Poet's Society
  2. Good Will Hunting
  3. American History X
  4. The Breakfast Club
  5. St. Elmo's Fire
  6. Schindler's List
  7. Pan's Labyrinth
  8. Murder at the First
  9. Se7en
  10. Pulp Fiction
  11. Cutting Edge
  12. The Devil's Advocate
  13. When Harry Met Sally
now, let's see if i can find any of these in the midnight madness sale later! :D

300

i love this movie! i saw it last Friday and my only regret was that i wasn't able to see it last Wednesday when they first showed it. i loved everything about the movie; the story, the actors, the cinematography, the effects, the action scenes, etc. if you're a guy, then you'll want to see this movie because of the fight/war scenes that'll put LOTR and Troy to shame. if you're a girl and this kind of movie is not even your type, then seeing the Spartan's rock-hard abs would make it all worthwhile (they don't need armor when they fight, they've got rock-hard abs!). yeah i know, pointing out this kind of fact is so not me. sabi nga ni mapet, "hala cherry nagiging babae ka na!" at kasalanan yun ng lahat ng six-pack abs sa movie. if you still need some convincing as to why see the movie, then here in my friend Dac's blog, she'll tell you why in a more "appropriate" manner (the abs weren't even mentioned). maybe you're wondering why there are no famous actors in the cast, but i tell you now, that doesn't matter. i think it helped that there are no big actors in this movie. i really can't tell why, but just check it out yourself. besides the obvious Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera), watch out also for Michael Fassbender, Tom Wisdom and Rodrigo Santoro (Love Actually, Charlie's Angels 2). Remember Brad Pitt's side-stepping attack move in Troy??? walang binatbat yun sa leaping attacks ni Michael Fassbender. i'd love to see it again! so if you're watching it anytime soon, and DO watch it soon, please invite me and i just might join you! :)

little miss sunshine

nope, this is not an attempt to write a review. i just want to say that i love this movie very much and i would love to watch it again. and that i am recommending this movie to everyone who enjoys a bit of comedy and a bit of drama with lots of character. i hope you'll enjoy it as much as i did. now hurry! the ayala malls may only be showing it until tomorrow! :)

blogging again

well, obviously, a lot of things happened in the last few weeks... took a one-week leave last Oct 30 (until Nov 3) and had 9-days of well-deserved relaxation. problem is, my body seemed to adapt to my "vacation-schedule" so that when i got back to work, i was late for 4 consecutive days (ouch!). i felt so guilty i've been trying to make up for it (meaning, trying to be not late) since then. i bought some of Jonas' Sleepasil and popped one of those when i'm still wide awake by 2am. i'm just happy that it seems to be working for me. however i also hope that they have a Wake-asil or something of that sort so i can learn to be up and about by 8am. ------------------------------------------- i managed to find a "lot" of movie-buddies and so i'm happy that i haven't missed any of the big movies (or at least movies i wanted to watch) lately. for the last two months, i've seen The Departed, World Trade Center, The Prestige, Marie Antoinette, Casino Royale, and Happy Feet. anyway, they are already showing Borat... anyone interested to watch it with me?? :) ------------------------------------------- a lot of people are coming back for the holidays... and of course, i've been trying to plan/organize a get-together for/with them. not to mention that i'm also cooking up several "christmas parties" for my different sets of friends. and remember that i am still squishing bugs. where will i find the time to do my christmas shopping when i cant even begin to think of what to buy for who (or is it "whom"?) as well... anyway, i hope everything goes well.. I LOVE DECEMBER!!! ------------------------------------------- advice: if you dont have time to buy things for your friends and family, then buy something for yourself. i got my own baby as well, weheheheehe!! :D ------------------------------------------- to be continued....

random thoughts

i just recently saw Bridget Jone's Diary movie (yeah the first one). it's the first time i've seen it in full though i've seen the ending 5 times already. anyway, i just wanna say i fell in love with the movie, not to mention that i now have a terrible crush on Colin Firth. it's my new "My Bestfriend's Wedding" movie. you know that kind of movie, which at a time in your life, you can SOOOOO relate to? and just to be clear, i'm not referring to the "it's raining men" part. ----------------------------------- sometimes, i wish i could fall in love easily, or not take romantic relationships too seriously, or trust easily. problem is, i always think too hard and i always try to rationalize my emotions. i think that the more it try not to be stupid, the more stupid i get. ---------------------------------- i miss my friends, and i miss the old times.
my high school friends, my first friends and best friends.
and my not-so-sentimental but nowhere less than good friends, my college barkada.
---------------------------------- on a lighter note, i've finally been to SM Mall of Asia last Saturday with my very good friend, Dennis. taking into consideration Maco's and Dionne's blog, i wore rubber shoes, sleeveless shirts, pants and tied my hair. hmm.. i didn't think the mall was too big. but that could be because we were on the 2nd floor most of the time. the land is big though; it's got it's own park by the bay area, two car parks, and it's own rotonda with the big globe (parang universal studios) on the front. Dennis and I decided to eat in a restaurant which you wouldn't find in other malls (or so we thought). so we picked this very american and classy place, Stars and Stripes. i enjoyed my food very much, i think they were delicious and the serving's pretty big. the prices are about the same as in other american restos like Chili's or Friday's.
i ordered U.S Beef Strips with Mashed Potato. Price: 390 PhP i liked it very much. the beef was salty but it's just the way i like it. too bad i was already full just halfway through the meal. :(
Dennis had the Barbeque Pork Chops with Java Rice. Price: 300 PhP you can see he's enjoying his food very much.
so 7 hours later, 4000 pesos-less (each!) and aching legs, we decided to go home. too bad it was raining and it seems that the whole metro manila population who was in the mall, decided to leave that time too. it took us two hours to get a taxi.. grr...
me, TRYING to call taxi service. see the "globe" behind me?

movie test for the movie buff in you...

back in ContentDev, we used to "play" this game a lot. i think it was "invented" by our number one movie buff, Anton Gustilo. it's got no name but it was really fun and pretty addicting. so i'm telling you... if you've got lots of things to do, don't play this. you've been warned! :P so here's how it goes... i'll give you the names of two actors/actresses. Try linking them by naming actors who they've shared a movie with. The catch is, they must be linked by 6 actors or less. for example... Tom Hanks <-> Tom Cruise Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones - The Terminal Catherine Zeta-Jones and Brad Pitt - Ocean's Twelve Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise - Interview With a Vampire gets?? here, try these: 1. Charlize Theron and Renee Zellweger 2. Julia Roberts and Johnny Depp 3. Sean Penn and Jude Law 4. Natalie Portman and Keanu Reeves 5. Ben Affleck and Tom Hanks 6. Clive Owen and Mark Wahlberg 7. Gwyneth Paltrow and Robin Williams 8. Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis 9. Uma Thurman and Reese Witherspoon 10. Robert De Niro and Hugh Grant 11. Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan (c/o ET) 12. Drew Barrymore and Drew Carey (c/o Chris) 13. Haley Joe Osment and Dakota Fanning (c/o Chris) 14. Katie Holmes and Kate Winslet (c/o Mark) 15. Jim Caviezel and Vin Diesel (hihihi...) ok... yan muna. most of those, i already know the answer. for some, i'm not even sure if they share a movie together or if they can be linked at all. but there's no such thing as only one answer in this game. so just try it and enjoy! :) edit: dahil kay Maco na di maka-gets, papaalala ko lang, NO CHEATING!!! (or else, you ruin the game) :P
